Team UK to pause baseball activities until further notice
In light of the evolving position relating to Coronavirus COVID19, it is with great regret that the Team UK Baseball programme announces a suspension to its baseball activities until further notice.
The status of the following scheduled activities are as follows:
Academy and SuperCup trials (Sunday 28th March 2020) Postponed
Regular season games (April/May 2020) Postponed
Travel team practices (April/May 2020) Postponed
SuperCup Tournament, Prague (Friday 5th-Sunday 7th June) Cancelled: rescheduled for 2021
Vila de Gavà Tournament, Barcelona (Friday 26th-Sunday 28th June) To be confirmed
It is our hope that our postponed events can be rescheduled to later in the Spring and Summer, although we cannot guarantee this in light of the scope of the Coronavirus global pandemic.
If we are unable to resume activities in the Spring and Summer, we will look to schedule a Fall programme of regular season games, practices and tournaments.
Our programme is looking to forge greater links across Europe and has always had the long-term ambition of hosting an international coach pitch tournament in the UK and/or participating in more overseas tournaments hosted abroad potentially in Western Europe.
Whilst baseball isn’t being played on the field, our coaches and managers have the capacity to work on these opportunities, in order that the great progress we made at our Academy during this off-season doesn’t go to waste.
Team UK General Manager Matt Crawshaw said “We have acted decisively in light of the growing concerns of the pandemic, as well as the latest advice from the government and other sporting authorities such as the FA and RFU, who have also suspended their grassroots youth programmes today.”
He added “The safety and wellbeing of our athletes, as well as their families, are of paramount importance. Some things are simply more important that sport right now but we hope that we can salvage some great baseball for our kids later this year.”
