Team UK announce provisional squad for SuperCup 2020
Team UK have announced their provisional squad to compete at the IBD u10 SuperCup tournament, being held in Prague on 5th-7th June 2020.
The Team UK programme has been holding their Academy sessions at Milton Keynes during the winter with 28 talented youngsters from across the country.
Following our first try out day on Sunday 23rd February, our Academy coaches met the following evening to discuss selections and the following eight players will be offered places to suit up for Team UK at SuperCup 2020.
Jacob Henry (Nottingham Rebels)
Lucas de Lope Villalba (Brighton Basbeall)
Riley Manning (Herts Baseball)
Cole Marshall (Hull Purple Pirates) Zebb Marshall (Hull Purple Pirates)
Luc Russell (Northants Centurions)
Simon Walton (London Sports)
Oli Yates (Brighton Baseball)
Team UK is targeting a squad of 11-12 players in total and will be holding a second trials date on 22 March 2020, where the programme will add further players to complete the squad.
Team UK General Manager Matt Crawshaw explained “We got hit a couple of weeks back by Storm Ciara which meant rescheduling our tryout day during the half term period. As a result about a third of our Academy players were away and we will evaluate them in March. The second trial date also gives another bite of the cherry for the players that didn’t make the provisional cut at this stage”.
Team UK have also signalled their intention to enter a second overseas tournament this summer. The Vila de Gavà tournament will be held in Barcelona on 26th-28th June.
Matt added “Given the close proximity of the two tournament dates, we do anticipate some players wont be available for both tournaments, which opens up the opportunity for more our Academy players to gain overseas tournament experience”.
The process for selecting a team for the second tournament will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Let’s go UK!
